In recent few years, the audience has shown that lavish sets and exotic plays don’t fascinate them anymore now they are going sucker for well-written, unique, and interesting stories. And Bollywood is treating them with such kinds of stories. Here are some small budget movies that won big at the Box Office in recent times:

1. Badhai Ho: This movie was a real example of a family movie. Beating all the stereotypes the comedy-drama starring Ayushmann Khurana had a collection of ₹132.65 crores against a budget of ₹30 crores. The perfect combination of the inspiring storyline and humourous dialogue was loved by the audience.

2. Bheja Fry: Bheja Fry was made on a meager budget but earned whopping Rs.8 crores in the box office. It earned a gross of Rs. 18 crores worldwide. This comedy film was directed by Sagar Ballary and produced by Sunil Doshi. It is based on the French Movie Le Diner de Cons.

3. Hindi Medium: If there is an actor who knows the art of making a small budget a marvel it is surely Irfan Khan. He showed some kind of magic in Hindi Medium. The mindset-changing story earned a collection of almost ₹70 crores at the Box Office.

4. Mulk: The new generation audience of Bollywood is fond of unethical movies and that’s why they loved Mulk so much. When the movie was first released, it faced tough competition at the Box Office from Fanney Khan and Karwaan. But slowly, this legal drama left everyone behind and did the business of 27.5 crores.

5. Raazi: Made on the budget of 40 crores, the gripping story of a brave girl who crosses the border to collect information for her nation made the audience adore each and every aspect of the movie and helped it earn 158.77 crores on Box Office.

6. Paan Singh Tomar: The biopic of an Indian soldier and rebel Paan Singh Tomar, this movie saw the collaboration of director Tigmanshu Dhulia and actor Irrfan after their first movie Haasil. Made at a small budget of 8 crores, the movie managed to collect Rs 38 crore at the box office.

7. Stree: Starring Rajkumar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in lead, Stree was the first-ever movie from the horror genre that entered the 100 crore club within the span of 18 days. The movie, which was made on a budget of only ₹20 crores, impressed the audience with its unique storyline (inspired by a real-life incident), fine performances by all the cast, and intelligent -almost introspective - humor.

8. Andhadun: The black comedy thriller got the audience’s eyes to stick to the screen. With a cliffhanger at every turn, the movie was a treat for the eyes. Made on a budget of only ₹25 crores, the thriller saw Tabu and Ayushmann in completely different roles. It has already earned a collection of ₹72.37 crores.

9. Tumhari Sulu: Tumhari Sulu was a sweet and cute slice of happiness for the audience. The story of a middle-class simple woman brought to the forefront of a section of the society in light. Starring Vidya Balan in the lead role, the movie made a collection of ₹30 crores, against a budget of ₹20 crores.

10. Shubh Mangal Savdhan: Ever since the two first came together for Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Ayushmann and Bhumi's chemistry left the audience impressed. And the two recreated the same magic on screen with a unique story in Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. Made on a budget of ₹25 crores, the movie had a final collection of almost ₹60 crores.
