Every time the filmmakers run out of ideas for their next venture, they use the move which guarantees a lot of success. That move is remaking a blockbuster movie in their language. And nobody is better than a Bollywood filmmaker when it comes to producing a remake. Over the years we have witnessed B-town filmmakers dropping the remakes of regional movies. While most of them came out to be blockbusters and box-office shakers some of them failed to touch the mark. Today, here we bring you a list of the top 10 Hindi remakes of regional movies that failed to impress the audience.

1. Dhadak (Sairat): Comparing Dhadak with Sairat is like comparing Veg pulao with Biryani. Sairat is one of the most grossing of Marathi cinema. But when the filmmakers produced the movie in Hindi with Ishaan Khattar and Janhvi Kapoor in lead it failed to spread the magic like Sairat did.

2. Laxxmi (Kanchana): You are surely going to get a stomach ache out of laughter after watching Kanchana, but Akshay Kumar starrer Laxxmi was not even close to the original one. And even the movie received backlash from the audience for not shedding light on the transgender community.

3. Simba (Temper): Another addition to Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe, Simba is the remake of Temper starring JR. NTR in lead. The makers of the movie did some subtraction and addition to the plotline of the movie. But their plan fell flat stomach on the box-office. Adaptations have the potential to allow good stories to reach a larger audience. But only if they live up to the original.

4. Ok Jaanu (O Kadhal Kanmani): Being the remake of O Kadhal Kanmani, Ok Jaanu was about the relationship problems in the modern day. Starring Salmaan and Nithya Menen, O Kadhal Kanmani was about the complexity and the gap in the relationship, while OK Jaanu was just a great dose of PDA.

5. Mimi (Mala Aai Vhhaychy!): very few of us know that Mimi is the remake of Mala Aai Vhhaychy!. Mala Aai Vhhaychy opted more realistic approach to showcase the love of a mother. Mimi did the exact same but with more drama and additional substance that fell heavy on it.

6. Tevar (Okkadu): The box-office collection gap of the movies are enough to tell you that Tevar failed to match the level of Okkadu. On the other hand, Arjun Kapoor’s Tevar lacked in most elements that make a hit. In the process of recreating the magic of the original, the film emerged as an easily forgettable cinematic project.

7. Ekk Deewana Tha (Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa): Ekk Deewana Tha was a scene-to-scene remake of the romantic Tamil film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. However, where the two films differed were the climax and the latter totally won there. Besides that, the female lead played by Amy Jackson, who could barely speak the language, made it difficult for the viewers to connect.

8. Khaata Meetha (Vellanakalude Nadu): A remake 1988 Malayalam film Vellanakalude Nadu, the Hindi version was also helmed by Priyadarshan. Starring Akshay Kumar in lead, Khatta Meetha managed to copy the essence of the movie but failed to impress the audience.

9. Prasthanam (Prasthanam): Deva Katta’s political family-drama Prasthanam was backed by seamless storytelling and stellar performances. Set in the backdrop of a family crisis, the characters are shown in a constant internal fight between good and evil. Meanwhile, the Sanjay Dutt starrer, although not an exact remake, doesn’t come close to the impact the original created.

10. Gang of Ghosts (Bhooter Bhabishyat): Gang of Ghosts, a film only a few of us would recall, was the Hindi adaptation of the Bengali horror-comedy Bhooter Bhabishyat. With the apt amount of witty comedy and satire, the original emerged as an enjoyable take on neo-liberalism and urbanization.
