It is universal fact that a sequel movie never fails to drop a wave of nostalgia every time you see it. In the Bollywood film fraternity, there have been sequels of numerous blockbuster hits. While many sequels ruined the expectation of the audience after the original movie, some managed to collect more applauds and do better business than the original movie. Things that make a sequel movie better than the original are the cliffhanger left at the end of the first movie and the way it carries forwards the legacy of the script. Sometimes it's stripping away the clunkiness of a flick and focusing on fun. Here are a few Bollywood sequels that scorched the original titles.

1. Gangs of Wasseypur 2: There is a saying that if you have never seen Gangs of Wasseypur in your life you are not a Bollywood buff. The first part of the movie was such a brilliant story builder that it not just set the stage for the sequel but also gave a chance to the makers to explore every possibility. While the original movie made Rs 27.85 crore on the box-office, Gangs of Wasseypur 2 grossed a total of Rs 43.96 crore.

2. Lage Raho Munna Bhai: In the era of dark humor, Lage Raho Munna Bhai is the purest form of comedy with a hidden message. Casting fresh in the movie started a whole new story ditching the classic story of Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. The movie grossed Rs 1.19 billion ($19 million), while its prequel Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. had grossed Rs 707.5 million.

3. Tiger Zinda Hai: Helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Tiger Zinda Hai follows the life story of a RAW agent named Tiger who leads a mission in Iraq and evacuates hostages. Tiger Zinda Hai also received numerous awards and accolades.

4. Tanu Weds Manu Return: The critically acclaimed sequel of Tanu Weds Manu starring Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan in lead never fails to make its audience happy and describe the value of true love in our life.

5. Sarkar Raj: The execution of the script in this film is far better than that in Sarkar. The climax is a major plus point for the movie. Sarkar Raj grossed Rs 594.6 million ($9.4 million), while Sarkar had grossed Rs 400 million ($6.3 million). Another factor that gives Sarkar Raj a thumbs up is the casting with the Bachchan trio -- Amitabh, Abhishek, and Aishwarya - all sharing screen space together.

6. Dhoom 2: Dhoom is one of the most successful franchises of the Bollywood industry and credit for that goes to Dhoom 2. While the original movie went unnoticed, the sequel of the movie created a buzz around the franchise.

7. Don 2: The unexpected twists and turns towards the end surely were a hit in Don 2. The Farhan Akhtar-directorial raked in Rs 2.06 billion ($33 million), while Don had grossed Rs 1.05 billion ($17 million) at the box office.

8. Pyaar Ka Punchama 2: This movie is an example of saying that success comes to only those who take risks just like Luv Ranjan did after the failure of Pyaar ka Punchama. Backing the cast of the original movie, the director made the second part on the same concept but with a different story.

9. Golmaal Returns: Rohit Shetty did not dream of any sequel when he made the first film. But today, he is on to part 4, and the box-office graph has gone up with each installment. However, it was with Part 2, titled Golmaal Returns that we saw a steep upgrade in the comic quotient and caliber.

10. Housefull 2: Of Sajid Khan’s hat-trick of comic movies that worked (which began with Heyy Babyy), this last one (also the second of three in the Housefull franchise of producer Sajid Nadiadwala) scored zingiest. As a side virtue, it had the best music among all these movies, but if ever Hindi films came near to P.G. Wodehouse in sheer wackiness in a ‘family’ plot, it was in this one.
