Yes, you heard it right, some actors made a name for themselves in the industry with a role for which they were not even the first choice. 1. Ayushmann Khuranna (Article 15): Anubhav Sinha’s Article 15 was the official entry of Ayushmann Khuranna's entry in the 100 crore club. It wouldn’t have been possible if the makers would have went with their first choice. As per the plan Ranbir Kapoor was supposed to play the role of the inspector, but he rejected it as he felt he was not meant for it.
2. Deepika Padukone (Ram Leela): Ram Leela was one of the biggest blockbusters of Deepika Padukone’s career. The movie helped her garnered not just famous in the industry but also helped her meet the love of her life. But initially, Sanjay Leela Bhansali decided to rope Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead role. However, Kareena dropped the role as she was working on Gori Tere Pyaar Mein and Deepika eventually got the role.
3. Vidya Balan (The Dirty Picture): Because of her bold and outspoken personality, the makers of The Dirty Picture decided to cast Kangana Ranaut as the lead. But at that time she was busy shooting for Tanu Weds Manu, so she was forced to turn down the role. And then, the role found its true contender which was Vidya Balan.
4. Shahid Kapoor (Jab We Met): We never found a true blue Bollywood love story, with Imtiaz Ali would have gone with the plan. Since the start, the plan was to cast Bobby Doel as Aditya but he had some other projects and because of his rejection Jab, We Met got shelved. Later, a meeting with Shahid Kapoor prompted Ali to bring back the film on board, ultimately rejuvenating not just his career, but also Shahid and Kareena's.
5. Aamir Khan (3 idiots): It is hard to imagine that Aamir Khan who gave a new life to 3 idiots was not Raju Hirani’s first choice. Initially, Raju wanted to cast Shah Rukh Khan as Rancho, but he turned it down because of personal reasons. Not just 3 idiots, SRK was the first choice for Lagaan and Rang De Basanti as well.
6. Ayushmann Khuranna (Andhadhun): Before reciting the script to Ayushmann Khuranna, the director of Andhadhun went to Varun Dhawan to rope him in the lead. However, Dhawan became busy with other films and Ayushmann reached out to Raghavan on his own, professing a desire to work with him.
7. Amitabh Bachchan (Zanjeer): The film that launched Amitabh Bachchan as the 'angry, young man' of B-town was initially supposed to star Raaj Kumar in the lead role. However, as the story goes, not only Raaj Kumar, but several other leading actors of the time turned down the film, and ultimately, Amitabh Bachchan was cast as Inspector Vijay Khanna.
8. Deepika Padukone (Tamasha): Imtiaz Ali should be taking God by now. Tamasha witnessed the most heart-warming performance of Deepika Padukone. But looking at Ranbir and Anushka Sharma’s chemistry in ADHM, he wanted to cast Anushka as Tara but she rejected the role.
9. Arjun Kapoor (2 states): 2 States went through a fair share of casting changes, with Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra being the first choice for the lead couple. When that didn't pan out, the role was also offered to Imran Khan, who turned it down for Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola.
10. Dhanush (Raanjhanaa): Shahid Kapoor was Anand Rai's first choice for his romantic drama because he was looking for an actor with 'a boyish charm'. However, Shahid could not do the film and that's how Dhanush made his Bollywood debut.
