Skoda has been delivering understated sedans for more than a decade in India. So much so, the Czech automaker has become synonymous with cosy and premium sedans in the country. With cars like Octavia, Superb and Rapid, Skoda has certified its name as one of the most sophisticated carmakers. Although their cars are not necessarily aimed at the middle-class, it manages to sell a decent number of cars to business people. Now, Skoda has decided to take one more step forward and enter a new segment. By introducing Kushaq, a compact SUV, Skoda marks the beginning of a new journey in the Indian market and will rival the likes of some of the well-established models in its segment like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Renault Duster among others. Here are 5 facts about the new Skoda Kushaq SUV:
1. The engine option in Skoda Kushaq will include a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI petrol engine producing 113bhp and 178Nm of torque; a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, TSI petrol engine producing 148bhp and 250Nm of torque.
2. A six-speed manual unit is standard while the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre versions get a six-speed automatic unit and a seven-speed DSG automatic unit as an option, respectively.
3. The interior of the Kushaq has a clean and minimal design, with a layered dash that has a free-standing touchscreen sitting in the middle. Skoda has also equipped the SUV with a two-spoke steering wheel.
4. The top-spec Style trim gets a large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected-car tech, leatherette seats, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, touch-sensitive buttons for climate control, in-car Wi-Fi, wireless charger, and a sunroof.
5. Its price starts at Rs 10.50 lakh for the base variant and goes all the way up to Rs 17.60 lakh for the range-topping trim. It is available in 7 variants and 5 different colours.
