Shubman Gill was born on September 8, 1999, in Fazilka, Punjab. He wanted to become a cricketer since the age of three and has shown his passion for the game.

His father Lakhwinder Singh is a farmer and his mother Kirat Gill is a housewife. Shubman Gill has an elder sister named Shaheen Gill.

The star batter made his List A debut for Punjab in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017 against the Vidharbha team. He made his first-class debut for Punjab in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy 2017. In the same year, in his second first-class match, he scored his maiden century against the Bengal team.

Shubman Gill is also captaincy material as in 2017, he was the youngest cricketer to lead a side in the Deodhar Trophy.

He was the leading run scorer for Punjab in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy and the youngest batsman for an Indian team to score a double century in a first-class match. He became the leading run-scorer for India in the 2018 U-19 WC.

In January 2018, he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 1.8 crore. He played for KKR from 2018-2021. Last year Gujarat Titans brought him for a massive amount of Rs 8 crores. He helped GT to lift their first IPL trophy in their first season.

In January 2019, he made his ODI debut for India in the fourth ODI match of the series against New Zealand. The same year in august, he set a record as the youngest Indian batsman to score a double century in a first-class match.

On December 2020, he made his Test debut against Australia, Gill's contribution helped India to win the historic fourth Test at the Gabba, he scored 91 runs.

In January 2023, he made his T20 debut against Sri Lanka. In the same month, he scored a double-century in ODI against New Zealand. In February 2023, he also scored his maiden T20I century against New Zealand.
