French multinational automobile manufacturer Renault has been launching reliable cars in the Indian market for almost a decade now. Its debut car in India, the Renault Fluence, provided a fresh choice for the Indian car buyers in the sedan segment. Launched in 2011, Fluence was priced at $15 lakh and had a good engine with decent mileage. The French automobile maker has since gained momentum with budget cars like Kwid, Triber and Duster offered in the Indian market currently. It is now planning to unveil another car that has been in works for months now. The all-new Renault Kiger is all set to launch in March of 2021 and will go head-to-head with the cars in compact SUV segment such as Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300 etc.

Renault has been testing its all-new Kiger, a compact SUV built for the Indian roads. The preview has been going on for a while now as the car testing car has been detected multiple times on the road. This car is on its way to being the first-ever sub-4-metre SUV for the French automobile maker. The carmaker has started the production-spec model will have around 80 per cent similarity in terms of design.

It gets a bold appearance thanks to its signature front grille and the sleek headlamps with the DRLs running across the width. The profile looks meaty with significant haunches and large 19-inch alloy wheels. Rear-end comprises of C-shaped LED tail lamps and a butch bumper.

Renault will offer the SUV with two 1.0-litre petrol engines: a 72PS/96Nm naturally aspirated unit and a 100PS/160Nm turbocharged motor. The 5-speed manual gearbox will come as standard while the CVT will be limited to the turbo-petrol engine. Renault could offer the AMT in the naturally aspirated engine.

The feature list is yet to be revealed but is likely to follow the Nissan Magnite. The carmaker is expected to spec the Kiger with a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital instrument cluster, cruise control, connected car tech, steering-mounted audio control and keyless entry with push-button start.

Renault is expected to price the Kiger from Rs 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It will take on the likes of the Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, and Nissan Magnite.
