May 29, 2022, is going to be marked as the black day in the history of not just the Punjabi music industry but also the Indian music industry. The icon of the Punjab hip hop scene and Congress leader, Sidhu Moose Wala has been shot dead by unidentified persons in Jawaharke village in the Mansa district of Punjab. As soon as the incident happened, the singer was rushed to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead. The rapper and singer have been news since he started his career. From rocking the Billboards to being the most heard Punjabi artist, Sidhu crossed many records. Today, in the remembrance of one of the most iconic Punjabi rappers, here we bring you the life story of Sidhu Moose Wala:

1. Hailing to Moosa village in Mansa district of Punjab, Sidhu Moose Wala was born Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu. Sidhu’s mother is the head of the village.

2. After completing his schooling, he completed his electrical engineering from Punjab. Soon after the completion of his education, he moved to Canada on a study visa in 2016.

3. Inspired by western rapper Tupac Shakur, he started his music career with “License” by Ninja. Started his singing career with a duet called “G-Wagon”. Gained stardom for his track “So High”.

4. With a lot of hype and recording-breaking songs, he realized his first album, Moosetape 2021, became a global hit, trending Canadian Hot 100, UK Asian, and New Zealand Hot charts.

5. The singer has always been the controversial kid. The controversy around his name started with promoting gun cultures, writing controversial lyrics, and hurting religious sentiments.

6. But the situation went out of hand in 2020. Two videos of Moose Wala went viral on social media where he was seen training on how to use an AK-47 on May 4, 2020. Six police officials who assisted him were suspended following the incident. Moose Wala was also booked under Arms Act.

7. Another controversy around his name came with his single “Panjab: My Motherland”, in which he glorified Khalistan separatist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

8. Moose Wala joined the Indian National Congress on December 3, 2021. He contested for Punjab Legislative Assembly elections from Mansa district but got only 20.52 percent votes and lost to the Aam Aadmi Party candidate Vijay Singla.
