Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated 'Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya'at Teen Murti Bhavan in New Delhi. Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya or Prime Minister Museum will showcase the contributions of all Indian Prime Ministers, cutting across their political affiliations, in the progress of the country. The motive of the Sangrahalaya is to honour the contribution of all the prime ministers of India in nation building. "The Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya is a tribute to every Prime Minister of India since Independence, irrespective of their ideology or tenure in office. It is an inclusive endeavour led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, aimed at sensitizing and inspiring the younger generation about the leadership, vision and achievements of all our Prime Ministers," the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a press release. The PMO further stated that, the museum represents a seamless blend of the old and the new as the Sangrahalaya integrates the erstwhile Teen Murti Bhawan designated as Block I, with the newly constructed building designated as Block II. In a tweet, PM Modi informed countrymen about the inauguration and urged everyone to visit the museum. The inauguration of the museum becomes special as it comes at the time when India is celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya is adjacent to the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library. It is built on a 10,000 square metre piece of land in Teen Murti Bhavan.

The project of the museum was approved in 2018 at a cost of ₹271 crore. There are a total of 43 galleries in Sangrahalaya.

The structure of the museum is inspired by the story of rising India, shaped and moulded by the hands of its leaders.

The museum has been built in a way that it follows sustainable and energy conservation practices. Not even a single tree has been felled or transplanted during the course of work on the project.

The logo of the Sangrahalaya depicts the hands of the people of India, holding Dharma Chakra symbolizing the nation and democracy.

The information for the museum was gathered through different sources such as- resources / repositories with institutions such as Prasar Bharati, Doordarshan, Films Division, Sansad TV, Ministry of Defence, Media Houses (Indian and foreign), Foreign News Agencies etc.

There will be a display of some gifts and Memorabilia (Felicitations, Honours, Medals conferred, commemorative stamps, coins, etc.). Also speeches of Prime Ministers, anecdotal representation of ideologies and different aspects of the lives of Prime Ministers have been reflected in a thematic format in the museum.

The museum will showcase displays on freedom struggle, framing of the Constitution and would tell the story of how our Prime Ministers navigated the nation through various challenges and ensured the all-round progress of the country.

The Sangrahalaya is equipped with technology-based interfaces to encompass heterogeneity in content and frequent rotation of display. To make the content in exhibition more interactive and highly engaging, the museum has interactive kiosks, computerized kinetic sculptures, smartphone applications, holograms, Virtual Reality, interactive screens, experiential installations etc.

The inauguration date of the museum remained April 14 for it being the birth anniversary of Dr. B R Ambedkar. "The date has been specially chosen because the prime ministers have worked following our Constitution," a BJP worker told PTI.
