Popular Bengali actress turned TMC MP Nusrat Jahan is a top newsmaker right now. She recently announced her split with husband Nikhil Jain and released an official statement saying the marriage was not valid in India as it took place in Turkey. With her separation news came another major goss - her alleged link-up with Yash Dasgupta. Nusrat Jahan forayed into active politics in April 2019 by pledging her allegiance to TMC. She is mostly known for her performance in Khiladi, with Ankush Hazra, Sondhe, Namar Agey, Rahul Bose and Power, with Jeet. She contested and won the 17th Lok Sabha elections from the Basirhat constituency. Jahan had the second-highest victory margin. She emerged as the winner by a margin of more than 3,50,000 votes against BJP candidate Sayantan Basu. Here're 10 interesting facts to know about the Trinamool Congress MP.

1. Nusrat Jahan was born in Kolkata, West Bengal to Muhammed Shah Jahan and Sushma Khatun on 8 January 1990. She completed her schooling at Our Lady Queen of the Missions School, Kolkata and then went to college in Bhawanipur College, Kolkata graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

2. She started her modelling career after winning the beauty contest, Fair One Miss Kolkata in 2010. She made her Tollywood debut in the film, Shotru alongside Jeet.

3. After a year of hiatus, she starred in her second film, Khoka 420, with Dev. Her next release of that year was Khiladi, opposite Ankush Hazra. After that, she appeared in two item songs, namely "Chicken Tandoori" from Action and "Desi Chhori" from Yoddha - The Warrior, both of which were instant hits and became chartbusters.

4. She joined TMC in April 2019 and contested and won from the Basirhat constituency by a margin of 3,50,369 votes.

5. In 2020, she appeared in Asur and then in an action film on hostage rescue operation SOS Kolkata, as ATS technical head Amanda Jones.

6. Nusrat Jahan had been in a relationship with businessman Nikhil Jain since 2018 and they got married on 19 June 2019 in Turkey. The marriage stands void as per Nusrat as it was nothing more than a live-in relationship, both of them are now separated. "Since it was an interfaith marriage, it required validation under the Special Marriage Act in India, which did not happen. As per the court of law, it is not a marriage, but a relationship or a live-in relationship," Nusrat said in a statement.

7. While the two got married in an intimate ceremony in Turkey, they later hosted a wedding reception in Kolkata, which was attended by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

8. Reports of trouble in Nusrat and Nikhil's marriage were around, it was also reported that Nusrat was getting close to fellow actor Yash Dasgupta. They were also on a trip to Rajasthan recently.

9. Yash and Nusrat worked together in the Bengali film ‘SOS Kolkata’ in 2020. This film also starred Mimi Chakraborty. Both Nusrat and Mimi have worked together previously. They have also co-starred opposite Yash with two different films.

10. Nikhil Jain revealed that he has filed for an annulment of the marriage in Kolkata. While he refused to comment further on the matter as the case is in court, he admitted that the two have been separated since November 2020.
