2020 was packed with path-breaking content from Netflix, especially movies in several different languages and genres to keep viewers entertained. So, in the beginning of 2021 only, Netflix has announced its long list of new and old movies coming up on the streaming service in January. Here's a list of the top newly released and yet to be released movies to look out for, releasing throughout this month :

Pieces of a woman, January 7 : From award-winning director, Kornel Mundruczo comes a heart-rendering and a deeply personal account of a woman's tragic story of pain and loss. Pieces of a woman features touching performances from Vanessa Kirby, Shea Labeouf and Ellen Burstyn as it portrays a woman dealing with the gut-wrenching loss of losing her child at birth and her emotional fallout from her partner and her family. The movie was earlier released on December 30, 2020 in select theatres and will start streaming on Netflix in January.

Stuck Apart, January 8 : A Turkish comedy, Stuck Apart/Azizler follows the story of a man named Aziz who is in the midst of a mid-life crisis and yet, tries his best to keep it together despite being challenged by his boring job, needy friends and an over-the-top family. This action-comedy further escalates with how Aziz builds up a web of lies to break out of his monotony featuring Engin Gunaydin, Haluk Bilginer, Binnur Kaya, in main roles, directed by the Taylan brothers.

Tribhanga - Tedhi Medhi Crazy, January 15 : A dysfunctional family drama featuring women of three generations from the same family, Tribhanga stars Kajol, Mithila Palkar, Tanvi Azmi, Kunaal Roy Kapoor in titular roles. Kajol plays Anu, a famous Odissi dancer and a single mother, who is torn between feelings of love and hatred for her own mother as she goes into coma. The movie derives its name,Tribhanga from an Odissi dance pose, which is disjointed yet mesmerizing much like the lives of these three women.

Outside the wire, January 15 : Set in the future, Outside the Wire is Netflix's blockbuster movie of the month starring Anthony Mackie, Damson Idris and Emily Beecham. Harp (Damson Idris) is a drone pilot, who is sent into a deadly militarized zone where he is looking for Leo (Anthony Mackie), an android officer. The two team up to locate a doomsday device before the insurgents to stop a nuclear attack in this action sci-fi adventure coming up on Netflix mid-January.

The White Tiger, January 22 : Based on the best-selling novel by Aarvind Adiga, The White Tiger is an intense drama featuring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles with newcomer Adarsh Gourav. Adarsh plays Balram, an ambitious Indian driver who uses his wit to escape being a servant and his journey to the top using any means possible. Chopra, also an executive producer for the movie, takes a backseat while this dark-comic drama plays out highlighting themes of class differences in India, fame and wealth.

Penguin Bloom, January 27 : Based on an uplifting true story of the Bloom family, the movie stars Naomi Watts in the lead along side Andrew Lincoln and Jacki Weaver. A young mother, Sam Bloom gets paralysed in a near-fatal accident and her family consisting of her husband, her three young boys and her mother are struggling to recover from this tragedy when an injured baby magpie brings a ray of hope in their lives. Penguin Bloom, a warm-hearted family drama, will be released in Australia on January 21 and will stream worldwide on Netflix a week after.

The Dig, January 29 With World War II on the verge, a wealthy widow played by Carey Mulligan hires an amateur archaeologist played by Ralph Fiennes, to excavate the burial mounds of her estate. What follows is a historically ground-breaking discovery, carrying the potential of turning all of their lives upside down. With Lily James, Johnny Flin and Ken Scott in the supporting roles, this period drama will release in select theatres in January 15 followed by a worldwide release on Netflix.
