Mercedes-Benz has launched two top-end S-Class models on Thursday in India. The first is made-in-India Maybach S-Class 580 4MATIC and the other is Maybach S-Class 680 4MATIC (CBU- completely built-up unit or in simple terms imported). “The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class surpasses the pinnacle of excellence with its fine blend of luxury, technology and bespoke character. It is the new definition of luxury for the ever evolving S-Class customers, who are young achievers in their respective fields and expect the best of luxury products and services,” The Hindu quoted Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India saying. Given a fierce competition between top automobile brands in India to capture the country’s ever-growing upper/upper-middle class market, it becomes imperative for us to delve into the details of the vehicle to understand its uniqueness as a luxury vehicle:

1. The S-580 has a V-8 engine with a displacement of 3982cc. The S680 has a v-12 engine with a displacement of 5980cc. Both the vehicles run on petrol.

3. The maximum power generated by S-580 is 496.17bhp at 5500 rpm (revolutions per minutes). The maximum power generated by S-680 is 603.4 bhp at 5250-5500 rpm.

4. The maximum torque developed by S-580 is 700nm @2000-4500 rpm. The maximum torque developed by S-680 is 900nm at 2000-4000 rpm

8. The S-580 is priced at INR2.50 crore. The S-680 is priced at NR 3.2crore. In 2021, Mercedes-Benz reported a 42.5 percent increase in sales of its cars and SUVs. Mercedes sold 11,242 units in 2021. Mercedes leads the luxury-car segment market range followed by BMW and Audi. Mercedes commands a 41 percent market share in the luxury car segment.
