The Bollywood buffs love to cherish some of the most romantic and mushy love stories. The Tinsel town of Bollywood has seen a number of on-screen and off-screen love stories. And one of such love stories comprised filmmaker Boney Kapoor and actress Sridevi. The story of the late actress and the popular filmmaker happens to be one that endured every imaginable roadblock and triumphed in the end. Just like every remarkable love story, the couple faced turbulence, drama, and opposition from family but ended up being together.
When Boney Kapoor first noticed Sridevi, she was already a big star in Tamil movies. At the first look, he decided that he is going to sign her in one of his movies.
He finally got a chance to do so when he signed her for the role of Seema in Mr. India opposite his brother Anil Kapoor. In order to woo her, when Sridevi’s mother who was her manager asked for a paycheck of 10 lakh, he offered her 11 lakhs.
As soon MR. India went on the floor, to make sure that Sridevi realised Boney Kapoor has something for her, he started giving her the best hospitality. In fact, he had arranged the best make-up room, costumes and ensured that she felt comfortable on sets and get whatever she wanted.
Sridevi felt something for Boney Kapoor for the first time when he stood strong by her family when her father passed away. But nothing happened between the two as at that time Sridevi was dating Bollywood A-listers and Boney was married to his wife, Mona Shourie Kapoor.
According to reports, Mona and Sridevi were friends, and the actress used to stay at their house and considered Boney as her brother.
But the feeling of Boney Kapoor for Sridevi was so strong that it made Boney leave his wife. Boney Kapoor and Mona Kapoor never really divorced and were separated in 1996 because of Sridevi.
And finally, the love between Sridevi and Boney Kapoor sparked when they jetted off to Switzerland for the shoot of Chandni.
The couple finally married in a simple ceremony in 1996. They had two daughters - Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Sridevi died just before Janhvi’s Bollywood debut in the 2018 film Dhadak.
Boney was left shattered after Sridevi’s sudden death on February 24 in Dubai due to accidental drowning. After her funeral, Boney penned a heart-breaking parting letter remembering his beloved wife.
