The first meeting of the couple happened in quite a funny way. Ali and Fazal first met on the set of their first movie together in 2012. Their first movie titled Fukrey captured them portraying contrasting roles. While Ali was a spot-spoken guy, Richa played the role of bold and dangerous Bholi Punjaban.
While working together on the set, their habits and personality played the cupid and helped love to spark between them.
Soon the couple started hanging out and going on dates together but one of them confessed their feelings for the other. Then one day, while watching Charlie Chaplin, Richa confessed her feelings and said I love you for the first time.
But Ali being Ali, took his time and said I love you back to her after 3 months. But, once they confessed their feelings for each other, the two became inseparable.
Keeping themselves away from the glam, the couple kept their relationship under the wrap for more than 5 years.

Richa has revealed that on their trip to the Maldives, Ali Fazal had planned a small, intimate dinner on the island, and just as they finished eating, he popped open a bottle of Champagne, went down on his knees, and asked Richa Chadha to marry him.
