The world celebrated the 8th edition of the International Day of Yoga, June 21. With the theme of 'Yoga for Humanity', many prominent personalities across the world celebrated and practiced Yoga to impart the message of a healthy lifestyle with Yoga. Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that helps to boost one’s mental and physical well being. Infact, for many across the world, Yoga became a powerful way to combat stress during the Covid19 pandemic. Practice of Yoga is instrumental in developing strength and resilience. It helps in building up psycho-physiological health and managing daily stress. Prominent political personalities like President of India Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai, BJP President JP Nadda, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and many others celebrated the day with enthusiasm.

The first citizen of India President Ram Nath Kovind celebrated 8th International Day of Yoga at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. “Yoga is a part of our ancient Indian heritage. India's gift to humanity, it is a holistic approach to health and well-being, balancing our mind, body and soul. I urge everyone to make Yoga a part of your daily life & experience its benefits,” says President Ram Nath Kovind on International Yoga Day.

This year Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated International Day of Yoga in the heritage city of Mysore in Karnataka. Over 15,000 people participated in the Yoga celebrations along with the Prime Minister at the Mysuru Palace grounds.

Extending the wishes of the day, PM Modi said, "Yoga is not only a part of life, it is a way of life. Yoga is for the entire humanity. Hence, the theme for this international Yoga Day is ‘Yoga for Humanity.’ I thank United Nations and people from all over the world for celebrating Yoga Day."

To celebrate the day by performing different asanas, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Said, “International Yoga Day is making all of us feel proud of our heritage.”

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and other dignitaries also performed yoga in Mysuru with PM Modi.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also took part in International Yoga Day celebrations at Thyagraj Stadium.

Bharatiya Janata Party President JP Nadda also participated in the Mass Yoga Demonstration at Noida stadium.

External Affairs Minister Dr.S Jaishankar also participated in Yoga Day event at Purana Qila. He celebrated the event with members of the diplomatic community,international and Indian students amongst others.
