Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the real-life story is based on the chapter from Hussain Zaidi's book 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai'. Starring Alia Bhatt is the lead movie that has made the audience break the box office. From drama to suspense, the movie is the perfect mix of cinema genres and that’s the reason why it has managed to garner box office collections of Rs 39.12 crores in its first weekend. But, there were many Bollywood celebs who rejected SLB’s directorial. Here we bring you a list of top Bollywood celebrities who rejected Gangubai Kathiawadi:
1. Deepika Padukone: The Jodi of Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Leela Bhansali has given a number of super hit movies including, Padmaavat, Ram Leela, and Bajirao Mastani. SLB approached Deepika to play the lead role of Gangubai Harjivandas but she refused to take it because of her busy schedule.
2. Priyanka Chopra Jonas: The hype went crazy when it was reported that Priyanka Chopra is being approached by the maker to play the lead in Gangubai. As one the last time, Priyanka and Sanjay got together in Ram Leela they set the internet on fire.
3. Rani Mukherjee: Rani Mukherjee who broke the box office with her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black was also approached for the movie but she turned down the offer because of some personal life problems.
4. Nawazuddin Siddiqui: One of the most versatile actors of the industry, Nawazuddin also turned down the offer from SLB. He was approached to play the role of Journalist in the movie. This was not the first time when dropped SLB’s offer. Before this, he rejected the role of Aman Faizi which was later portrayed by Jim Sarbh.
5. Parth Samthaan: Popular television star Parth Samthaan was initially supposed to make his Bollywood debut playing Gangubai's love interest in the film and the role was eventually bagged by another television star Shantanu Maheshwari.
