This year Filmfare introduced the first ever OTT award, for all the web-series which entertained us while coronavirus pandemic forced movie industry to go through a complete shutdown. Amazon’s Paatal Lok and The Family Man were the big winner of the night as both of them bagged five awards each. Panchayat which is also an Amazon Prime Video’s original series won four awards. Jiadeep Ahlawat fetched the Best Actor in a Drama Series award for his excellent acting performance in Paatal Lok, while Sushmita Sen won the Best Actor in a Drama Series (female) for her role in Aarya, with which she made her digital debut. Only the series which saw their debut between August 01, 2019 and July 01, 2020 were considered for the award show.
1. Best Series Award- Paatal Lok (Amazon Prime Video): The series follows the investigation of an assassination on a well known journalist. The series spotted light on Jaideep Ahlawat’s Hathiram. The dark tone of the series played the major role in the success of the series, The excellent story telling of the series left a mark in fan’s heart.
2. Best Director, Series- Avinash Arun And Prosit Roy (Paatal Lok): Despite the visceral violence shown in the series, Paatal Lok was able to win many heart and some of the credits goes to the direction work done by two talented director Avinash Arun and Prosit Roy
3. Best Actor in a Series Drama (Male): Jaideep Ahlawat (Paatal Lok)-Paatal Lok spotted the light on Jaideep Ahlawat’s character of Hathi Ram who is an underdog policeman who never got a breakthrough. The way Ahlawat portrayed this role made everyone his fan and it became quite obvious for him to win this award.
4. Best Actor in a Series Drama (Female): Sushmita Sen (Aarya)-Sushmita Sen made her digital debut with Hotstar original series titled Aarya in which she portrayed the role of a widow named Aarya Sareen who has to take responsibility for her dead husband to ensure the safety of her children and lived ones
5. Best Actor in a Comedy Series (Male): Jitendra Kumar (Panchayat)-Jitendra Kumar became the soul of the series as soon as he stepped into the character of Abhishek Tripthai who is the main character of Amazon Prime Video’s original series Panchayat.
6. Best Actor in a Comedy Series (Female): Mithali Palkar (The Little Things 3)- Mithali Palkar gave a special charm to her character of Kavya Kulkrani that forced every viewer to fall in love with Kavya.
7. Best Original Story, Series: Sudip Sharma, Sagar Haveli, Hardik Mehta and Gunjit Chopra (Paatal Lok)-Paatal Lok told the story of how murky our society has become and all the credits goes to the corruption and crime around us. The story of the series complimented every aspect of the series
8. Best Comedy Series: Panchayat (Amazon Prime Video)-The series follows the life of an engineering graduate who was forced to joins the Panchayat of a remote village Phulera of Utter Pradesh due to lack of employment opportunity
