The Bollywood film industry has witnessed many controversial love affairs but the love connection of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh still remains the most-talked about topic of the industry. Not a single thing about the relationship of Saif and Amrita was ordinary so naturally, their love story too was far away from being an ordinary one. The former couple was poles apart and that became a big reason behind their divorce after staying together for more than 14 years. From tying the knot despite the 12-year age-gap to facing a nasty divorce, the relationship of Saif and Amrita is still considered as one of the most romantic and at the same time one of the most controversial relationships of all time.
If Amrita was outspoken and dedicated, Saif was cool and carefree. There was no denying the couple was poles apart but still couldn’t stop themselves from falling in love head over heels.
From a steamy liplock in public to share the same apartment for long, the couple left no chance to admire their love and flaunt it in front of all whole.
However, despite all the odds including their huge 12-year gap, both Amrita and Saif decided that they can’t live without each other and tied the knot in October 1991. Amrita’s age during their marriage was 33 while Saif was still a 21-year-old youngster.
4 years after their marriage, the couple welcomed their first baby girl Sara Ali Khan and 2 years later they became the parents of Ibrahim Ali Khan.
Amrita gave up her lucrative career for the marriage and decided to become a homemaker to take care of her family and kids but despite all this, she failed to save her marriage.
Even though no official confirmation came our way over why did Saif and Amrita get divorced after 13 strong years of being married, many attribute Saif Ali Khan’s affairs and falling “out of love” with Amrita as the reasons behind their separation.
It was also speculated that Saif’s proximity with Italian dancer and model, Rosa Catalona was the reason behind his separation from Amrita.
But in a throwback interview in 2005, Saif had rubbished the reports and had stated that it was Amrita’s changed behaviour with him and his family that had soured their relationship.
In 2005, during an interview, Saif revealed that he was supposed to give Amrita ₹5 crores, of which he had already given her approximately ₹2.5 crores. "Also, I'm paying ₹1 lakh per month until my son becomes 18," he said.
After their harsh divorce, the two took their separate paths and decided to move on in their lives. While Saif fell in love with Kareena and tied the knot with her, Amrita decided to stay single and take care of her kids Sara and Ibrahim.
