Aparna Yadav, the younger daughter-in-law of Samajwadi Party founder and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav, joined the BJP on Wednesday. After back to back exit of prominent SC/OBC ministers from the Yogi Adityanath government, Aparna's entry has come as a morale booster for the saffron party. Aparna Yadav had time and again supported many moves of the BJP government in the past, despite being a SP member. She had also supported the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Aparna Yadav is married to Prateek Yadav, the couple tied knot in 2011 and are parents to a girl. Prateek is the son of Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife Sadhana Gupta.

Aparna Yadav is an alumnus of Loreto Convent School, Lucknow. She completed her post graduation in international relations and politics from the University of Manchester.

Her political journey began in 2017 when she contested on an SP ticket from Lucknow Cantonment assembly seat but lost to BJP's Rita Bahuguna Joshi by a margin of 33,796 votes.

Not just a Politician but Aparna Yadav is also a trained classical singer. She studied classical music for nine years at Bhatkhande Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Lucknow.

Aparna also has interest in social and public work, and runs an organisation that works for women's rights and empowerment.

Her father is Arvind Singh Bisht who is a former journalist and a former state information commissioner of UP. Aparna's mother Ambi Bisht is an official of Lucknow Municipal Corporation.

Aparna had supported many actions of the BJP government in the past. She had shown her support for the NRC which was contrary to Samajwadi Party's official stand. She has also lauded the abrogation of Article 370. Apart from this, she has also donated a sum of Rs 11 lakhs for the construction of Ram Mandir temple in Ayodhya.

Aparna has reportedly shown interest in contesting the 2022 Uttar Pradesh election from the Lucknow Cantt seat. However, the BJP is yet to take a decision in this regard.
