The best of the best writers hit ‘writer block’ once in their life and Bollywood scriptwriters are no different. To take down the challenge of this writer block, the Bollywood writer often uses the weapon of the remake. What they do is that they pick a blockbuster old classic, repaint it with new dialogue, decorate it with a new cast, and boom you are ready with an original movie. But at times we have seen this weapon backfiring pretty badly. The fact that not all films should be remade is known to all and some of them are such a dreadful watch. They do not just cringe at us but always make us though that is why they were produced in the first place. Here is the list of the 8 worst Bollywood movie remakes that should never be produced:

1. Coolie No. 1: Coolie No. 1 is the latest entry in this list. The remake of the 1995 blockbuster starring Govinda and Karishma Kapoor in lead, was an epic fail that got one of the lowest ratings of all time. The excellent star cast couldn’t even manage to save the dead story of the movie.

2. Himmatwala: Starring Jitender and Sridevi in lead Himmatwala was one of the biggest hits of 1983 that left people grooving over taki taki. Expecting the same response, Bollywood director Sajid Khan decided to remake it with Ajay Devgn and Tamanna Bhatia in lead but failed miserably.

3. Karzzzz: We all remember the craze of Rishi Kapoor in buffs when he gave an excellent performance in Karz but the remake of the original is that movie we all want to forget. Trying to replicate the story and charm of the movie, singer Hemesh Reshammiya did everything and even took astrological help by adding extra ‘z’s in the name but nothing managed to save the movie.

4. Player: It is always seen that the remake of a Hollywood movie always does great on the Indian box office but players was an exception. Directed by Abbas-Mustan, the 2010 released Players is a heist action thriller and a shoddy remake of the 2003 film The Italian Job. Even though the action sequence of the movie was quite impressive, the poor screenplay random music numbers, the pace of the movie made all the hustle go in the dump.

5. Ram Gopal ki Aag: Some films are so big they’re better left untouched, and Ram Gopal Varma learned his lesson when he dared to remake Sholay. The 1975 film has attained cult status over the years and to date, people remember and love the dialogues and characters. Sadly, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag didn’t even come close to recreating the same magic and his film went down in ashes at the box office.

6. Action Replay: We were wrong Players was not the only exception, Action Replay was not far away in this list. Starring Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Aditya Roy Kapoor, this movie is based on the 1985 film Back To The Future. Blame the taste of the audience or the screenplay but this movie turned out to be a big flop.

7. Khushi: Starring Fardeen Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, Khushi is a remake of the 2000 Tamil film of the same name that featured Vijay and Jyothika. While the Tamil version was a huge hit, its Bollywood remake didn’t quite impress audiences. The story is about the differences between two people as they love their ego more than they love each other, and how they overcome it to finally realize what true love is.

8. Zanjeer: The only question that comes to our mind after seeing this movie is why? The 2013 remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s Zanjeer starring Priyanka Chopra and Ram Charan Teja, sadly, couldn’t do any justice to the characters, or the original film.
