Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off the new-gen GLA in India. The new model gets a reworked exterior, additional features, spacious cabin, and revised powertrain options. With the introductory prices starting at Rs 42.10 lakh for the petrol-powered GLA 200 and going up to Rs 57.3 lakh for the performance-focused AMG GLA 35 4Matic, Mercedes looks to enter the affordable luxury segment in India. However, these prices are set to increase by Rs 1.5 lakh from July 1, 2021. Mercedes had originally planned to launch the second-gen GLA in India earlier this year, however, the launch was delayed due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic leading to lockdowns in many states. As far as design is concerned, the Mercedes GLA SUV will follow similar looks seen in some of the German brand’s larger SUVs like the GLC or the GLE. Besides the redesigned grille and bumpers, the new GLE will also feature new multi-beam LED headlights and reworked taillights. Launched on Tuesday, this is how the new Mercedes-Benz GLA looks in India:

The GLA is powered by a new 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine. The GLA 35 AMG variant will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.

On the inside, the new Mercedes GLA will feature a new digital driver display and a new infotainment touchscreen. Both the screens, measuring 10.25 inches, are similar to what is found inside the A-Class Limousine. The digital infotainment screen will also feature the carmaker’s new MBUX system which supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

Besides the technical upgrades inside, the cabin of the new GLA will also feature new leather upholstery for the seats, along with an updated interior colour scheme. The AMG line variant will feature an all-black cabin with sports seats.

The front seats are all-electric adjustment with memory function. Inside the cabin, GLA boasts of a panoramic sunroof, ambient light with 64 colours, wood/aluminium trim, 2-zone automatic climate control AC and wireless charging.

Appearance-wise, the 2021 GLA is now taller, bigger, and has increased ground clearance than the previous generation model. This gives it the much-needed SUV appeal that lacked a bit in the older model. Upfront, there is a single slat horizontal grille flanked by revised LED headlamps. The GLA sits on a comfortable set of 18-inch alloy wheels surrounded by squared-off wheel arches. The rear gets the familiar sleek LED tail lamps.
