The Met Gala, also known as the Met Ball, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. All of Hollywood's biggest names make an appearance at the biggest fashion event of the year, dressed up in their best based on the themes. Here's a look at 10 of the most memorable Met Gala looks donned by celebrities over the last five years :

Rihanna, 2015 : Donning a Chinese couture gown made by Guo Pei perfectly matching the theme, Rihanna went down in Met Gala history with her extravagant and humongous yellow ensemble with an embellished headdress and a giant ravishing train cape.

Beyonce, 2015 : Drawing the most attention for the event that year, Beyonce made heads turn with her almost transparent bejeweled gem of a gown by Givenchy. Arriving fashionably late, she literally shined with Jay Z besides her in a look close to perfection.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West, 2016 : Walking the Met carpet in coordinating metallic ensembles by Balmain, Kim and Kanye undoubtedly dazzled as the best dressed couple of the night. Kanye went so far as to even wear silver contacts while Kim shined in a long-sleeve gown.

Zendaya, 2017 : Even after being in ER a few hours ago, Zendaya walked the carpet like the diva she is at Met Gala 2017, in a stunning Dolce & Gabbana gown. Covered in a tropical parrot print and vivid colours, Zendaya went all out with her eye-catching ball gown.

Gigi Hadid, 2017 : Gigi Hadid has always been known to shine at Met Gala but her 2017 Tommy Hilfiger ensemble was the best by far as she donned caramel colour head to toe literally. Her messy bun complemented her asymmetrical outfit and nude makeup perfectly.

Sarah Jessica Parker, 2018 : Delivering some of the most remarkable Met Gala looks in the past, Sarah Jessica Parker fulfilled expectations even in 2018 when she appeared in a gilded gold gown by Dolce & Gabbana with the most incredible train and an over the top headdress.

Blake Lively, 2018 : Blake Lively's extravagant Versace gown took more than 600 hours to make but it was all worth it. She looked heavenly in the ruby and gold gown with intricate and extensive beading, as her spiked headpiece accentuated her look to another level.

Lady Gaga, 2019 : Lady Gaga created history by changing into four outfits live at the Met Carpet in 2019 in what felt like an astounding performance. Starting from a massive hot pink Branden Maxwell gown, Gaga proceeded to strip down to a black bikini and fishnets in the end.

Cardi B, 2019 : Queen Cardi B donned an oxblood custom Thom Browne gown that extended outward in concentric circles for about ten feet. Covered head to toe, Cardi's ensemble took more than 2000 hours to make and she pulled off the look with a matching headdress.

Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner, 2019 : The Jenner sisters have always slayed their individual Met Gala appearances but they sent everyone in a shock, when they showed up at the 2019 event together in themed ensembles. Kendall and Kylie looked ravishing in orange and purple outfits respectively.
