Raheel Sheikh, the son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Vice President Javed Sheikh, has been arrested on a drunk driving, harassment, and threat case after Mumbai influencer Rajshree More accused him of continuous ramming of her vehicle and threatening her on Sunday evening.
As per More, this happened when she was riding from Goregaon to Andheri. In her complaint, she accused Sheikh of intentionally ramming into her car several times when he was driving drunk and half-naked. More even recorded part of the exchange on camera and posted it on her Instagram.
"The SUV driver was continuously ramming my car. The first time it was a mistake, but then again, I was targeted. I don't know if I was being trailed," she explained to NDTV. "I took a very narrow street near my residence which is just one-car wide and then it was convenient for the other car to target mine."
She said that when she noticed two constables around, she asked for their help. "They sat in my car and it was rammed once again," More said.
More went on to claim Sheikh attempted to use his political influence to threaten her and the police. "My father is the state vice president of MNS," Sheikh said to her as he challenged her to call the police.
She said that when police came to meet him, Sheikh turned violent and abusive towards her. "As soon as he saw me, he began abusing me. That's when I began recording. He was drunk and half-naked. His trousers were falling off. He didn't notice that, but he was very much noticing who his father was," she added. "He abused me and warned me, telling me that I would have to pay for what I was doing."
The scuffle follows a previous controversy surrounding More, who claimed to have been attacked by MNS supporters for voicing his opinion against their position in the Marathi language controversy. Earlier, in a statement, the influencer had denounced MNS workers for reportedly attacking a shopkeeper in Mumbai who did not know the Marathi language on grounds that hard work was more important than linguistic imposition.
After the Sunday night accident, an FIR was filed against Raheel Sheikh under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with the accusations of Section 79 (gesture or action meant to insult the modesty of a woman), Section 281 (reckless and negligent driving), and Sections 125 and 185 (drunk driving). No arrest has been made till now.
