Punit Renjen: Meet the India-born Global CEO of Deloitte

Renjen began his career at Deloitte and joined as an associate consultant. Later, he served as the chairman of Deloitte LLP (Deloitte US) from 2011 to 2015, and as CEO of Deloitte Consulting from 2009 to 2011. He became the first Asia-born person to head one of the Big Four global professional services firms after he was elected as the Global CEO of Deloitte. Currently after re-election in June 2019, Renjen serves as the CEO of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (Deloitte Global).

Punit Renjen, an Indian American business executive, is the Global Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Deloitte. He has been serving as the CEO of Deloitte since June 1, 2015. He was reappointed to this position in 2019. He also serves as a member of the Deloitte Global Board of Directors. Earlier he served as the chairman of Deloitte LLP (Deloitte US) from 2011 to 2015, and as CEO of Deloitte Consulting from 2009 to 2011.

Under Renjen's tenure, Deloitte launched WorldClass—a global effort to prepare 100 million underprivileged people for a world of opportunity—based on the belief that when society thrives, business thrives. Recently Deloitte made a commitment to be net zero by 2030 under its WorldClimate initiative.

Other than his role in Deloitte, Renjen is a member of The Wall Street Journal CEO Council, United Way Worldwide, the U.S.-India Business Council, and the Business Roundtable. He also serves as a member of the boards of trustees at Catlin Gabel School,[28] United States Council for International Business and Willamette University.

Even after achieving such heights in his career, he worked for his hometown as well. In 2021, the Haryana government and Deloitte launched a COVID-19 project called Senjeevani Pariyojana with an aim to treat patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 symptoms in their homes. The design of the program was led by Renjen and it is being supported by the Public Health Foundation of India and the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science.

Punit Renjen was born in Rohtak, Haryana, India.  His father had an electrical switchgear factory in Haryana. He did his schooling from The Lawrence School, Sanawar, an autonomous public co-educational boarding school near Shimla. Later following financial problems he returned to Rohtak and continued his education at a local college from where he received his Bachelor's degree in economics. In 1984, he earned a Rotary Foundation Scholarship, affording him airfare to the United States and a full scholarship to Salem, Oregon's Willamette University. He earned his Master of Management from Willamette's Atkinson Graduate School of Management in 1986, and has lived in the United States ever since.

The CEO of Deloitte lives in Portland, Oregon, with his wife and son. He is an ardent sports lover particularly Cricket and American football and a runner.
