US Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris addressed a concession speech at Howard University in Washington, D.C., saying she is proud of the campaign and stressing that "when we lose an election, we accept the results.".
As Harris said Wednesday during a speech at her alma mater, "I'm so proud of the race we ran and the way we ran it. Throughout 107 days of this campaign, we have been intentional about building community and building coalitions, bringing people together from every walk of life and background, united by the love of the country with enthusiasm and joy in our fight for America's future. And we did it with the knowledge that we all have so much more in common than what separates us.".
"While I may concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign," she said.
"Sometimes the fight takes a while. That doesn't mean we won't win."
In her speech, Harris concentrated on Democrats' major concerns - abortion, gun violence, equal justice - promising that "we will continue to wage this fight in the voting booth, in the courts, and the public square.".
The Vice-President also noted that there is a need to accept the elections' results, Xinhua news agency quoted her.
She had spoken with the President-elect Donald Trump and wished him well; she added that her administration would make a smooth transition of power as peaceful as possible.
Just before dawn on Wednesday, Fox News projected that Trump would get more than 270 Electoral College votes, which would put him at the threshold to clinch the presidency.
Quick on his feet, Trump declared victory for the 2024 US presidential election right from his election headquarters in West Palm Beach, Florida, calling it "a political victory that our country has never seen before".
