Rohit Sharma, the captain of the team, proved his mettle at the top of the order, setting the stage with his explosive innings.

Bumrah initiated the onslaught by dismissing Pathum Nissanka on his very first ball. Following suit, Siraj displayed his prowess as he trapped Dimuth Karunaratne with an LBW dismissal on his debut delivery.

In the afternoon, Jasprit Bumrah’s intelligent variations and Kuldeep Yadav’s accurate wrist-spin, along with other bowlers amongst the wickets, meant India bowled out Pakistan for just 191 in 42.5 overs. From being 155-2 at one point, Pakistan lost eight wickets for just 36 runs in 13 overs.

"Jasprit Bumrah did not travel with the team to Indore for the 2nd ODI against Australia. He has gone to visit his family and given a short break by the team management. Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has joined the team as Bumrah's replacement for the 2nd ODI. 

Talking to Wisden Cricket Monthly, the English star said, “Jasprit Bumrah is the No. 1 I think, probably across all formats. He's pretty sensational with what he does and he's unique, right? His action is very different from anyone else and he has got a high pace, a gun, slower ball, a yorker on tap - everything you need as a white-ball bowler.” 

Bumrah made a return to international cricket in August 2023 after an 11-month layoff due to a back injury requiring surgery, by captaining India in 2-0 T20I series win over Ireland, where he also picked Player of the Series award. Bumrah made his ODI comeback in the victorious Asia Cup campaign, picking four wickets in as many matches with an average of 17.75 and economy rate of 4.17.

As the Indian team was getting ready to return to their hotel after play was called off, Bumrah was presented a special gift on behalf of the Pakistan cricket team for his newborn first son, Angad.
