Pandya has been ruled out of India's match against New Zealand after injuring his left ankle in their previous match against Bangladesh at the MCA Stadium in Pune. While trying to stop a boundary hit by Litton Das on third ball of the ninth over, Pandya seemed to twist his left ankle in his follow-through after slipping in the process of saving the four and went off the field, to not participate in rest of the game.

Gill's 126 not out off 63 balls in the series decider at Ahmedabad that contributed to India's huge 168-run victory and helped seal the series 2-1, lifted him by an incredible 168 places in the rankings to be at 30th position. Gill, who has now slammed centuries in all three formats of the game, is ranked sixth in ODIs and 62nd in Tests.

"I've played more games than any of those guys out there. So, I've known the experience and more than the experience part, it's where I've batted, and I've learnt how to accept pressure and I've learnt how to kind of swallow the pressure and kind of make sure the team and everything are calm," Hardik Pandya said in the post-match press conference.

Gill, who didn't have much success in the first two games, put on a batting show, smashing the Black Caps' bowlers all-round the park at the world's largest cricket stadium. Apart from Gill, the likes of Rahul Tripathi (44 off 22), Hardik Pandya (30 off 17) and Suryakumar Yadav (24 off 13) also made vital contributions with the bat.

India, who won the last game, made one change in their playing XI as Umran Malik came in for Yuzvendra Chahal. "We're going to bat first. Want to put up some runs and take the game from there. Looks like a very good wicket, we played here in the IPL final where the ball did a bit more in the second innings," said Hardik at the toss.

With this convincing win, India rose to the top of the ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings. England, who had gained the top spot merely three days back following New Zealand's loss to India in the second ODI, are now in second position, with New Zealand slipping to the fourth spot.

Gill and Rohit put on an excellent exhibition of batting by hitting sixes and boundaries all around the park, stitching a stand of 212 runs for the opening wicket. The likes of Virat Kohli (36), Ishan Kishan (17) and Suryakumar Yadav (14) got starts but couldn't convert them to big scores, otherwise, India could have scored even more.
