New Covid wave: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka among least hit; Japan worst

According to Worldometer, India notched 188 fresh cases till Friday and in the immediate neighbourhood are Pakistan with 15 cases, 11 in Afghanistan and five in Sri Lanka. However, other neighbours like Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh had zero infections, and the same was with Thailand, a popular tourist destination for Indians.

Beijing Covid wave 'peaked' but China months away from tsunami of infections

According to the South China Morning Post, citing health experts, Covid-19 is spreading in China so swiftly that infections might have already peaked in the capital and could do so in Shanghai in a week."I think the infections in Shanghai will peak in a week and after the peak the outbreak will continue for one to two more months," said Zhang Wenhong, director of the infectious diseases department at Fudan University.
Japan logs highest single-day Covid deaths amid 8th wave

The previous high of 347 Covid-19 deaths was reported on September 2 during the seventh wave, Xinhua news agency quoted the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare as saying. The new figure has pushed op the overall death toll to 54,680 as of Saturday morning. Among prefectures, Kanagawa on Friday reported the highest number of deaths with 28, followed by Hokkaido with 25, Tokyo with 24, and Osaka with 19.
