Hyundai Motor's Q1 net jumps 92% on SUVs, increased production

South Korea's Hyundai Motor said on Tuesday its first-quarter net profit jumped 92 per cent from a year earlier on increased production and an improved product mix. Net profit for the three months ended in March rose to 3.42 trillion won ($2.56 billion) from 1.78 trillion won during the same period of last year, the company said in a statement.

According to Maruti Suzuki, last fiscal it had sold 1,966,164 units (domestic 1,644,876 units, exports 259,333 units, other vehicle makers 61,955 units), up from 1,652,653 units (domestic 1,365,370 units, 48,907 units, exports 238,376 units) sold in FY22. The shortage of electronic components had some impact on the production of vehicles in FY 2022-23 and all possible measures to minimise the impact, Maruti Suzuki said.

Net profit for the three months ended Dec. 31 jumped to 1.709 trillion won (US$1.38 billion) from 701.37 billion won during the same period of last year, the South Korean carmaker said in a statement. "An improved product mix, low incentives, the won's weakness (against the dollar) buoyed the quarterly bottomline despite high inflation and global economic slowdown," Seo Gang-hyun, executive vice president in charge of Hyundai's finance and accounting division, said in the company's earnings conference call.
