With the IPL 2025 player regulations and retention policies yet to be chalked out, MS Dhoni has made it clear that he will only decide his future with Chennai Super Kings once the rules are formulated.
Dhoni said, "There is a lot of time for it. We have to see what decision they take on player retention etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court. So, once the rules and regulations get formalised, I will take a call, but needs to be in the best interest of the team," during a promotional event in Hyderabad.
All of the speculations are rising regarding Dhoni's future amidst all the talks after CSK declared Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain for IPL 2024. The team closed out the season in fifth position and out of the playoffs. As things stand, there is no consensus among the ten IPL teams regarding mega auction rules, including the retention of players and the Impact Player rule.
After a meeting with the owners of franchises here in Mumbai, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said that there was productive discussion on many topics. The recommendations arising out of this will be reviewed further by the IPL Governing Council.
Dhoni, who led India to the title in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, termed Jasprit Bumrah as his favorite Indian bowler. Bumrah had been declared Player of the Tournament in India's T20 World Cup triumph in June where he returned with 15 wickets from eight matches at an economy rate of 4.17.
It's easy to choose Bumrah as my favourite bowler because he performed so well. Picking a favourite batsman is harder because there are so many talented players. Doesn't mean the bowlers aren't great, though," Dhoni said.
On being asked about his favourite batters, Dhoni simply refused to pick one, saying, "It's tough to take the name of any one batter since all of them appear good in their own way. As long as Team India keeps on winning, I don't want to take the name of any batter. I wish they continue to bring runs for the team."
