Controversy erupts over Mamata's oath taking ceremony
On October 1, the Speaker wrote to the Governor asking him to come to the Assembly for the oath taking ceremony of the newly-elected members of the House. The Speaker, who generally conducts the oath taking of the members of the Assembly, had to write to the Governor because Dhankhar had withdrawn Biman Banerjee's power to administer the oath of office to the members of the state legislature in the middle of September.
Trinamool, BJD convincingly win Assembly seats
The Trinamool won Bhabanipur, Jangipur and Samserganj assembly constituencies, and the BJD has won Pipili. Banerjee has defeated her nearest rival Priyanka Tibrewal of BJP by a record margin of 58,832 votes from Bhabanipur. Earlier, Banerjee had won from Bhabanipur by a margin of 54,213 votes in 2011.
Mamata wins crucial bypoll, Trinamool sweeps other two seats too
After 21 rounds of counting, Banerjee secured 85,263 of the total 118,580 votes, securing more than 71 per cent while Tibrewal secured 26,428 votes, little more than 22 per cent. CPI-M's Shreejib Biwas managed to get only 4,226 votes.
For Banerjee, it was a do or die battle to retain her position as the Chief Minister because she had lost to the BJP's Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram in the Assembly election earlier this year.
Congress at zero in West Bengal as Mamata wins big
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee secured 84,709 votes, decisively defeating BJP's Priyanka Tibrewal who secured 26,350 votes in the make or break Bhabanipur bypoll, while CPI-M's Shreejib Biwas managed to get only 4,201 votes. In Jangipur and Samserganj too, the Trinamool have maintained decisive leads.

Outcome of Bengal by-polls not in line with our expectation: BJP
Sukanta Majumdar, the Bengal unit chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said: "We need to understand that a large number of people couldn't come to vote or they were not allowed to come to vote. But one thing we should keep in mind that the chief minister Mamata Banerjee thought that she would wipe out BJP from Bhabanipur but that has not happened."

CPI(M) candidate Shreejib Biwas managed to get only 4,201 votes.
Trinamool celebrates despite EC's prohibitory order in Bengal
The election commission in a notification issued on Sunday said, "No victory celebration/procession during or after the counting shall be allowed in the ongoing election in West Bengal for which counting is taking place on 03.10.2021. All necessary action should be taken to ensure strict compliance of the Commission's direction wherein all such activities have already been prohibited in view of the pandemic.".
