Automobile giant Volkswagen on Wednesday officially notified that the global premiere of its new midsize sedan for the Indian car market will take place on 8th March. The car, reportedly named Virtus, will compete with the likes of soon-to-be-launched Skoda Slavia, Mahindra XUV700 and Hyundai Creta and Hyundai Verna.

“Dimensionally, the new Volkswagen sedan is more than likely to be longer and possibly wider than the Vento which means it could be promising a whole lot of cabin space on the inside. Visual highlights like LED head lights, DRLs, chrome grille bar on the face, among others, are also a near certainity… could get the same engine options that are found inside the Taigun - a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI unit and a 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder engine,” as per a report by HT Auto.
This launch comes at a time when the India car market in the budget segment around ₹10 lakh have diverted towards sub-compact SUVs in the recent time.
As per recent reports, VW Taigun has been critical to the company’s sales growth last year. For the month of September 2021, it sold 2563 units compared to 2026 units sold in September 2020. Taigun contributed to 1461 units of the sold units. In November 2021, Taigun sold 2849 units which is a 11.68 percent increase when compared to 2551 units in October 2021.
