Jyoti Singh, wife of Bhojpuri actor, singer, and politician Pawan Singh, has declared her candidature for the Bihar Assembly elections.
Jyoti Singh announced her decision after Pawan Singh lost the Lok Sabha elections from the Karakat constituency. While Jyoti Singh confirmed that she would be entering the electoral fray, she did not reveal the seat or the political party under which she would contest.
In the Lok Sabha polls, Jyoti Singh did an aggressive campaign for her husband. She sought the people of the region to vote for Pawan Singh.
She remained actively seen amidst the people of the Karakat constituency. She had raised the possibilities that she could be a contender for the Bihar Assembly polls slated to be held in 2025 from this very area.
Although her party and constituency remain yet to be formally announced, increased public appearances of Jyoti Singh in Karakat have given birth to the speculations within the political circles of Bihar. According to several opinionists, she is expected to contest from Karakat Assembly constituency in the next 2025 elections and to revive her family's politics within the area.
She witnessed a cricket tournament on Friday. She was present as the chief guest at a sports ground at Dalmia Nagar. Hordes of followers gathered there and welcomed her amidst slogans of "Jyoti Singh Zindabad". Organizers paid tribute to Jyoti Singh at this event as well, and Jyoti seemed to bask in all these accolades warmly.
Speaking to reporters, Jyoti Singh of the Congress said that she was all set to file her nomination as a candidate from the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
"If the people want and order me, I will definitely contest the Assembly elections this time," she said.
"I am coming to the area because of the love, blessings, and respect of the people. I will contest the elections, but from which party or which assembly constituency will it be revealed soon," she added.
