Deportation of illegal Indians living in the United States of America has ignited a political storm with the opposition trying to target incumbent Modi government for these deportations of illegals from the US. Now, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has responded to the outrage in the Parliament during the ongoing budget session.

Further, the Indian Foreign Minister said this is not a new development of deporting illegal Indian immigrants and this policy has been in place since 2009. Incidentally, Congress, which is making hue and cry regarding the development, was in power during 2009.

"It is the obligation of all countries to take back their nationals if they are found to be living illegally abroad.". This is obviously subject to an unmistakable verification of their nationality. This is not a policy applicable to any particular country, nor is it one practiced only by India. It is a generally accepted principle in international relations. Members would be aware that the process of deportation is not new and has been ongoing for several years," the EAM added.
