President Joe Biden invites PM Modi for state visit to US: Report

Given that India is hosting a series of events this year related to the G-20, which will culminate in a summit in September, the two sides are reportedly looking for dates in June or July that would allow Modi to attend the visit while also having a few days of availability between domestic and international commitments.

US President Joe Biden has extended an invitation for a state visit to Prime Minister during the summer months, news agency PTI reported quoting its sources.

The invitation has been accepted in principle, and both sides are working on finding mutually convenient dates for the visit, the report claimed.

It is understood that at least a couple of days are required for the state visit. This visit will include an address to the joint session of the US Congress and a state dinner at the White House. Modi is expected to have packed domestic and international commitments until the fall, before he begins his campaign for a series of crucial state assembly elections later this year.

Biden hosted his first state dinner for French President Emmanuel Macron in December. A senior administration official has stated that Biden believes the partnership between India and the United States, as two of the world's leading knowledge economies, is essential to address major global challenges. The official also said that the US views India's rise as a global power as being in its strategic interest and that the relationship between the two countries is essential for a successful and enduring effort to address the challenges facing the world today.

In Tokyo last year, Prime Minister Modi described the US-India relationship as a partnership of trust and a force for good global peace and stability. On Tuesday, India's National Security Advisor, Ajit K Doval, and his American counterpart, Jake Sullivan, launched the India-US initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies, which officials from both sides described as the "Next Big Thing" in the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
