The highly-versatile light tank 'Zorawar' of India, also a symbol of the country's growing defence indigenous capability, on Friday successfully cleared its preliminary automotive and field firing trials, an official statement said.
According to a statement issued by the Defence Ministry, the Defence Research and Development Organisation conducted field trials of Zorawar, which can be deployed in high-altitude areas in the desert terrain, and it has turned out exceptionally well, successfully achieving all the objectives for which it was aimed at.
During the initial phase, the firing performance of the tank was tested extensively and it achieved the desired accuracy on targets, it added.
Accordingly, Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment, under DRDO, has been able to successfully develop Zorawar with Larsen & Toubro Ltd. in partnership. A large number of Indian industries including MSMEs participated in the development of its various subsystems.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Indian Army and all associated industry partners for the successful trials of the Indian Light Tank, stating that it is an important milestone towards the quest of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' in the critical defence systems and technologies.
