Delhi Air Pollution: Slight improvement in air quality, inches closer to 'poor' category

The predominant surface wind is likely to be coming from the Northwest direction of Delhi with a wind speed 4 kmph, mainly clear sky, and shallow fog in the morning on December 8, according to the  Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi.

National capital Delhi on Tuesday observed a slight improvement in its air quality as the  Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped from 'very poor' category to 'poor' at 314. The city had been under the 'severe' category for several weeks earlier in the month of November before dropping to 'very poor' in December. The predominant surface wind is likely to be coming from the Northwest direction of Delhi with a wind speed 4 kmph, mainly clear sky, and shallow fog in the morning on December 8, according to the  Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi.

1. The PM 2.5 and PM 10 in the air on Tuesday stood at very poor and moderate levels respectively, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

2. The national capital's maximum and minimum temperatures also dropped at 24 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius respectively for the day. Delhi is likely to observe fog in the morning with maximum and minimum temperatures settling at 22 degrees Celsius and 9 degrees Celsius respectively for the week, as per predictions of the India Meteorological Department's (IMD).  

3. An AQI recorded between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 is considered 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 is 'moderate', 201 and 300 is at 'poor', 301 and 400 is 'very poor', then 401 and between 500 is considered 'severe'.
