Pieter Elbers is the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of IndiGo. Pieter replaced Ronojoy Dutta to become the CEO of IndiGo on 6 September 2022.
Pieter, is a Dutch airline executive who earlier worked as the president and CEO of the Netherlands' flag carrier airline, KLM.
In 1992, Elbers started his career with KLM as supervisor of aircraft loading at the Schiphol hub. Later he held many managerial positions at KLM in 'The Netherlands' and abroad for six years. He worked as general/sales manager in Japan, Greece, and Italy.
In 2005 Elbers became the Senior Vice President (SVP) network and alliances. He held the position of SVP for over 5 years.
In 2011, Elbers joined the board of managing directors and worked as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) from January 2011 to September 2014.
He was one of the crucial members of KLM that led them to sign with the airline alliance SkyTeam.

On 15 October 2014, he was given the charge of President and CEO at KLM, replacing Camiel Eurlings. Under his leadership, KLM purchased a 14% stake in the company in 2019, in an effort to protect the Netherlands' interests. In early 2022, KLM announced that Pieters Elbers would not continue for a third term and instead resign by May 2023.
In September 2022, Pieter Elbers joined IndiGo airlines as the CEO, replacing Ronojoy Dutta, who had retired.
Elbers is a member of the executive committee of the Air France-KLM Group. Furthermore, he is a member of the supervisory board of Marfo B.V. In addition, he is a member of the board of the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers.

Pieter Elbers was born in Schiedam, in the province of South Holland. He did his graduation in Logistics Management from Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Venlo. He also holds an MBA degree from the Open University of the Netherlands. Pieter also studied abroad in New York City and Beijing.
Born 11 May 1970, Pieter is married to Marjolein Elbers.
